About the technique
What is the Emmett Technique?
|
The EMMETT Technique is a unique form of body therapy for both people and animals, involving the application of light finger pressure at specific points. It is based on the belief that light touch can trigger a relaxation response in the soft tissue, and the therapists may help relieve tensions resulting in feelings of improved comfort within the body. The result is often instantaneous.
The Chameleon Approach refers to the ability of an Emmett practitioner to be like a chameleon when treating clients. The EMMETT practitioner will adapt his / her style according to who he is working with to achieve rapport and the best result for each individual client. Every body is different. Ross Emmett is the creator of this unique technique. When he left school, he started working with animals. He began to watch the animals he was working with and caring for, seeing the changes in their movement or behaviour. The animals would show Ross what they needed or wanted, where they wanted a comforting hand or a scratch and when they had received enough they would simply walk away. Ross found he could make a difference to an animal with a simple touch. |
How does it work? |
There is no current scientific explanation for the mechanism by which it achieves the relaxation response. However, we believe a good analogy is that of a digital touch-screen. We believe the EMMETT points are small sensory receptors that allow access to the brain via the therapist's touch. The brain then evaluates this stimulus and initiates the relaxation response of the soft tissue.
